Fitness
training for athletes used to be limited to exercise and practice-repetition.
As the concept expanded, inclusion
of nutritional considerations became common practice.
More recently, the addition of psychological approaches has proven
beneficial to the athletes performance.
These advancements in nutrition, biomechanics, and mental training now make
it possible for athletes to obtain new levels of performance, and to maintain
those levels longer than had ever been imagined.
Consider Mental Fitness training:
 |
When a medical or physical limitation has
been ruled out, adequate training and coaching resources are available and
utilized - and the limitation persists. Very often the source of that limitation is a blocking
belief, conscious or unconscious, which when identified and eliminated can result in the behaviors,
thoughts, and feelings associated with it to likewise disappear.
|
When Mental Fitness Training removes the
self-limiting elements, former levels of performance can be regained or even surpassed, for example:
 |
An increased free throw percentage or
batting average. |
 |
More consistent defensive play in critical
situations. |
 |
Reduced strike outs (or perhaps more of
them, if
you're a pitcher). |
 |
More critical points off the back-hand
shot down the line. |
 |
More confidence in picking up the spare
or strike when needed. |
 |
Yip-free golf & more consistency with your driver,
approach shots, putting, etc. |
